When the Revolution Comes

I wonder if the Russian aristocracy stood in the balcony liquored up and taking pictures of the mobs below with their iPhones.

Did the French aristocracy pull out their iPhones and type in clever phrases like "let them eat cake"?

Here is what the organizers hoped to realize:

And here is one person's reason to protest:

I hope this movement grows. Something needs to be done to get democracy back from the ultra-rich who have bought the politicians and keep them in their pocket.

At least the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) is convinced that revolution is imminent in the US. Read this article. The article says:
The first attack, dubbed Occupy Wall Street (OWS) is scheduled for Sept. 17.

The so-called 'Day of Rage' protest was first announced by a group called Adbusters in July and is being actively supported by Anonymous. The organizers of OWS hope to get about 20,000 individuals to gather on Wall Street on that day to protest various U.S. government policies.

The protest is being coordinated through Adbuster's website as well as via an Anonymous YouTube video that exhorts followers to "flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months," the DHS noted in its alert.

Similar rallies targeting financial districts are being planned in Madrid, Milan, London, Paris and San Francisco, it said.

Update 2011sep19: Here is a post by capitalist/publisher Tim O'Reilly in support of the demonstrations.

Update 2011sep21: Here is an update on the protests on Democracy Now. The talk about the demonstration starts as 01:30 into the video:

And from this article in Huffington Post, there is more news of unions joining the fray:
New York City labor unions are preparing to back the unwieldy grassroots band occupying a park in Lower Manhattan, in a move that could mark a significant shift in the tenor of the anti-corporate Occupy Wall Street protests and send thousands more people into the streets.

The Transit Workers Union Local 100's executive committee, which oversees the organization of subway and bus workers, voted unanimously Wednesday night to support the protesters. The union claims 38,000 members.

...

The protests found their genesis not in any of the established New York social action groups but with a call put out by a Canadian magazine. While other major unions beyond the TWU have yet to officially endorse Occupy Wall Street, more backing could come as early as this week. Both the New York Metro Area Postal Union and SEIU 1199 are considering such moves.
